Dr. Amanda Oehlert is a sedimentary geochemist whose research explores how Earth’s sediments record and respond to changes induced by global carbon cycling, microbial activity, and contaminant exposure. She measures elemental concentrations and stable isotope ratios using techniques such as ICP-QQQ and CF-IRMS to reconstruct past ocean conditions, to understand carbon cycle dynamics, and to contribute to graduate student training. Her work also examines biosignatures produced by microbial communities living at the edge of habitability, revealing how life persists and alters its surroundings under extreme conditions. Complementary to these efforts, she has contributed to studies investigating how toxic metals and metalloids are incorporated into and transported through ecosystems and human communities via aerosols, drifting Sargassum, and environmental exposure mechanisms. .
