Felicia Casanova, Ph.D. is a medical sociologist and Research Assistant Professor at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. Her research examines how environmental and climate-related exposures and stressors, including extreme weather events, displacement, and infrastructure disruptions shape health outcomes and access to care among highly mobile populations, including workers in climate- exposed and outdoor occupations. Dr. Casanova’s work bridges social, environmental, and biomedical perspectives to understand how climate-related exposures influence chronic disease management, mental health, and healthcare continuity, particularly among people living with HIV, cancer survivors, immigrant communities, and coastal populations. Using mixed methods, social network analysis, and community-engaged research, she studies how social and institutional systems can buffer or exacerbate health risks during environmental crises. Her work informs strategies to strengthen health system resilience and protect human health in the face of climate change.
